I injured my left hand earlier this year and could not do boxing or workout properly for a while, so I started running more instead. One thing led to another and I signed up for a marathon.

I have always done a bit of running here and there (two half marathons along the way), but never taken it seriously. This year feels like the right time to change that.

The marathon is in La Rochelle (where I grew up), which is a good reason to go back and run 42km through the streets I cycled around as a kid, along the Atlantic coast. I am building up to it with a 10k in London in April and a half marathon in the autumn.

I am also fundraising for the British Heart Foundation. Heart disease has affected my family directly, and it felt like the right cause for this. I will add a donation link once the page is set up.
